16:45 05Jun09 RTRS-Taiwan dollar ends at 1-week low on fund outflows * Taiwan dollar slips in thin trade ahead of U.S. data * Some expect c.bank to intervene to help exporters (Updates closing values) TAIPEI, June 5 (Reuters) - The Taiwan dollar fell to a one-week low on Friday on foreign fund outflows as the local stock market slipped, but trade was thin as most investors stayed sidelined ahead of jobless data out of the United States. The Taiwan dollar reversed early gains to fall to an intraday low of T$32.700, but later pared some of those losses to close the session at T$32.607. This was weaker than Thursday's close of T$32.597. Volume on the main Taipei Forex Inc exchange was a paltry $687 million, lower than the $1.078 billion recorded in the previous session. "Trading was really thin today, and the stock market's fall really pressured the Taiwan dollar during trade," said a dealer in Taipei. "But most people are staying away and waiting for U.S. jobless data before making any decisions." United States non-farm payroll data, an indicator of jobless figures in both the private and public sectors, is due to be released on Friday. Many investors were also keeping a wary eye for signs of central bank intervention, with many expecting the authority to pull down the Taiwan dollar. A weaker Taiwan dollar is good for the bottom lines of export-reliant local companies as it allows them to get more of the local currency for their U.S. dollar or euro earnings. In the non-deliverable forwards (NDF) market, six-month NDFs were quoted at -0.720/-0.690 compared with -0.750/-0.700 in the previous session, indicating investors expected the Taiwan dollar to appreciate less strongly in half a year. On the smaller Cosmos exchange, the Taiwan dollar closed at T$32.593, weaker than Thursday's close of T$32.585.
