"The pressure of profit-taking mounted after Taiwan stocks hit a new high in 2009 and overshadowed gains in smaller individual companies," said Kevin Yang, president at Paradigm Asset Management Co Ltd. Mediatek, Taiwan's top chip designer and supplier, declined 2.33 percent to T$503 after climbing mroe than 3 percent last week.
